Professional Psychology Program

The mission of the Professional Psychology Program (Kod) is t prepare practicing psychologists who address important societal problems that impact upon the lives of individuals, families, groups, and organizations. The curriculum emphasizes theoretical and research derived knowledge that guides profesional practice and enhances opportunities for psoychologists to serve as change agents for the betterment of society.

The degree offered is the Ph.D. in Psychology, The curriculum meets the educational requirements of most state psychology boards. A full-time Clinician and Prof. administer the Psychology Program at New York State. Faculty provides program specialization’s in academic, clinical, counseling, health, and organizational, school, and sport psychology.

Delivery system:

Courses are offered by 3 instructional methods each quarter. Students can register for a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 3 courses each quarter. Students planning to seek e license to practice psychology are expected to maintain full time enrollment status (minimum of 2 courses) every quarter for a minimum of 12 quarters. Instructional methods offered by the faculty are:

  1. Computer-mediated courses delivered on the Albanian Academy.
  2. Courses delivered as individual tutorials. Faculty members offer courses to students who wish to study individually with that instructor. A list server exists for these courses to support student communication. This instructional method permits the student to design a course syllabus, which reflects the student’s particular, needs and interests and covers the core concepts of the course as described in the Psychology Curriculum Guide. A minimum of 5 substantive instructional sessions must occur between the instructor and the student before the student submits assignments at the end of the quarter

Academic Residency Requirement

Psychology students must complete the 32 residency units required of all doctoral students at The Albanian-American Academy of sciences New-York.

Students specializing in clinical, counseling, and school psychology must complete 500 hours of face-to face contact with the faculty. Credit for face – to face contact is awarded for attending academic residencies. Students specializing in academic, health, organizational, or sport psychology do not have a face-to to face requirement beyond that expected of all University students (32 residency units).

Full-time enrollment is defined as enrolling in a minimum of 2 courses or 10 credits, each quarter. Clinical, counseling and school psychology stude3nts are required to enroll on a full-time basis for a minimum of 3 years (12 quarters).
Students pursuing specialization in academic, health, organizational, and sport psychology are required to enroll for a minimum of 2.5 years (10 quarters) and to meet
Residency requirements required of all doctoral students enrolled at the Academy. These students must enroll for a minimum of 1 course each quarter.

The Curriculum

The curricvulum includes required core and advanced courses for each specialization, and elecctive courses. A syllabus for reach course appears in the Psychology Curriculum Guide Each sylla bus defines core concepts to be mastered, recommended readings, and criteria for evaluating doctoral level mastery of the core concepts. Each course carries 5 quarter credits, which carries a total of 27 credits. Students create a Program of Study during their first quarter of enrollmefnt to support their specialization. The student's Faculty Mentor, Program Director, and the Vice President for Academic Affairs must apporove the student's Program of Study.

Core coureses are: PSYC 8000, 8010, 8030, 8050, 8070, 8090, 8100, 8120, 8140. These courses must be completed before students can enroll in advanced courses required of their specialization. The Albanian American Academy of Science was established in 1995 as a non-profit organisation that aims at promoting and supporting the interests of its members and constantly increasing academik relations and investments between Albania and the USA.
